Position: Principal Network Engineer
Employment Type: Full-time
Remuneration: £47,810 – £54,710 annually

Job Responsibilities:

As a Principal Network Engineer, your primary duty will entail supporting the design, roll-out, and management of data centres, local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks across NCA locations. You will work in close collaboration with senior engineers to create network solutions that accommodate the specific demands of healthcare settings, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and peak performance for clinical and administrative systems.

Beyond network deployment, your role will involve providing technical assistance to diagnose and rectify network issues and incidents swiftly. You will leverage network monitoring tools and troubleshooting methods to pinpoint root causes and execute corrective measures, thereby minimizing interruptions to essential healthcare services and upholding service level agreements (SLAs).

In your position, you will work alongside cross-functional teams to put network security measures in place, aiming to protect sensitive healthcare data and comply with regulatory standards. You will aid in the execution of security policies, firewall setups, and access control mechanisms to mitigate risks and shield the NHS network infrastructure from cyber threats.

Candidate Profile:

Mandatory Qualifications:

– Relevant degree or comparable knowledge, skills, and experience
– High-level subject matter certification such as CCNP or equivalent expertise
– Evidence of ongoing professional development

Preferred Qualifications:

– ITIL Certification
– Project Management Certification (Prince2, SCRUM, etc.)

Key Skills:

– Ability to mentor staff and enhance their technical capabilities
– Capable of functioning independently and as part of a team
– Highly motivated with the ability to inspire team members
– Adaptable approach to work
– Proven ability to meet critical deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively
– Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to forge effective relationships at all organizational levels
– Willingness to travel as per job requirements, including carrying necessary equipment as needed
– Ability to identify and address complex IT problems
– Ability to assess and adopt new IT solutions through R&D and test configurations
– Proven ability to strategize and deliver strategic plans

Preferred Skills:

– Experience in supporting large-scale projects
– Familiarity with Change Management processes

Essential Knowledge:

– Comprehensive knowledge of an extensive range of IT solutions, including PC/Server operating systems, applications, and hardware solutions
– Basic knowledge of common alternative systems such as Juniper, Aruba, Dell

Preferred Knowledge:

– Familiarity with a Healthcare IT environment
– Understanding of IT Security

Required Experience:

– Significant experience in a high-pressure IT Support environment
– In-depth experience with major corporate solutions including the Microsoft server product set, VMware, and industry-standard network technologies and architectures
– Extensive experience in delivering, supporting, and troubleshooting complex multi-vendor technical infrastructures.
